The 3 things you MUST know about Wrong Fuel!

Waste Fuel Disposal

Got an old fuel container placed at the back of your garden containing unwanted and old, useless or contaminated fuel? We're able to help you to dispose of it. We've been called out to many privately owned and business properties in East Sussex to deal with taking away and recycling fuel storages. We are licenced by the Environment Agency to allow us to get rid of and dispose of waste fuel safely and legally.

Regardless of whether the fuel storage is a subterranean reservoir, a portable bowser, or perhaps a number of containers in a shed, assuming that we are able to reach it, we can drain it.

AdBlue In your Fuel

In East Sussex we have seen increasingly more cases of AdBlue contamination when an individual has poured AdBlue right into their diesel tank. This is mostly a result of drivers not being totally sure the way to use it (note: it is not a fuel additive), and in part simply because the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are generally directly next to one another on the vehicle.

Now, exactly what is the matter with having AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Seeing that the product is mostly ionised water, it's almost the same as pouring water into your tank. Diesel and water do not ever mix in the least and attempting to run a diesel car on water cannot work. In addition to this, the urea is extremely corrosive to your fuel system hoses and seals and is more prone to crystallisation, clogging injectors and filters. If perhaps you put AdBlue in your fuel tank drain it as quickly as possible. And certainly do not crank the motor - not even to relocate it away from the pump. If perhaps you have started the car you would very likely have to have the whole fuel system flushed and filters replaced.

Give us a call if it turns out you are a victim of AdBlue contamination. We can help. We are Specialists in dealing with contaminated fuel and will be able to handle different types of AdBlue liquid contamination.

Wrong Fuel in Car in BN6 Postcode - Streat Misfueling

Ahhh, that was a good night of uninterrupted sleep! 7:30 am on a warm Sunday and we were on the way to help an old lovely lady after she had put petrol in her diesel matte black Kia Spectra in Streat. She informed us that she had left the petrol station and was pulled up in a country lane on route to see her grandchildren. I plugged her location into the Satnav and was with her inside 60 minutes. I got to the stricken lady and extracted the contaminated fuel in the car vehicle. Whilst I was working she told me, "I am getting relatively forgetful in my old age and forgot about the vehicle working with diesel as I'd just acquired it a few days back after my old one, which I had used for more than thirty years, finally died". I completed the drain and she gave me a toffee and said thanks a lot. What a pleasant East Sussex woman!

Wrong Fuel Assist Streat - Wrong Fuel in Car Streat

I enjoyed a perfect evening fishing on my afternoon off and was feeling delighted with myself the following working day as I was en route to aid a young couple who were away in Streat. They stopped after filling petrol in their Ferarri red Jaguar XK, and were about an hour's drive away. I got there at their position and smiled to myself as I heard to the woman telling her partner off for being so daft. "How could you actually be able to put the wrong fuel in the vehicle?" she demanded of him. I attempted to explain that this problem comes to pass everyday in East Sussex and that it's nothing at all to stress about, however he all the same got his ear bent. I felt sorry for the lad. In any case, I extracted all the contaminated fuel, flushed the motor and filled it up with the correct fuel. While watching them drive away I waved farewell and thought about what my missus would do to me if perhaps I did the same thing... I would personally never hear the end of it!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
